ClimAccelerator Impact Hypothesis

This tool enables the preliminary evaluation of the potential climate impact of a company's innovative solutions. It will provide you with a short statement that Climate KIC wants to obtain for all companies in the ClimAccelerator. It is understood that impact hypotheses are estimates with insufficient accuracy for making impact claims.

There are three versions of this tool, for three distinct ways to make an impact. Select your type of company, and a form will appear below. After filling out the form, you can send Impact Hypothesis to Climate-KIC, and you will receive a copy by email.

Mitigating companies provide products or services with lower GHG emissions.
Enabling companies provide means for others to prevent GHG emissions.
Adaptation companies which help to cope with the effects of climate change.

Can someone explain how this works?
We will host a series of webinars to explain the Impact Hypothesis, provide examples, and answer your questions! Your ClimAccelerator organiser knows when your IH demo webinar is scheduled.
What is the deadline to complete this?
Deadlines are determined per company and communicated with you directly when applicable.
Can I save a file to get back to it later?
Yes you can save your Impact Hypothesis:
  1. Click 'Save' (on the top to the right)
  2. A file will download to your computer
  3. Your data is not stored online
To continue with a previously saved Impact Hypothesis:
  1. Click 'Open' (on the top to the right)
  2. Select a previously downloaded Impact Hypothesis file on your computer
  3. You can continue working
Can I add my own impact data?
Yes, for instance to add custom transport data:
  1. Select 'Transport'
  2. Select 'add custom transport' (from the bottom of the list)
  3. Change 'specify custom transport' to 'electric car per km'
  4. Provide the climate impact in kgCO2eq for this electric car per km
  5. Provide the source you use for this data, preferably as a link
What is the source of the data used?
We use the LCD database IdeMat, in the Impact Hypothesis and Climate Impact Forecast. The data is also available as an IOs and Android app.
Would you advise companies to select one priority difference (for both reduction and resource), if their solution has multiple differences?
Indeed, choose the predominant difference, this is just an approximation. With a Climate Impact Forecast you can add unlimited activities and resources. 
How does the GHG emission from product manufacture add to the final product Greenhouse gas reduction in the Impact Hypothesis?
In the Impact Hypothesis you can select only one emission source, and it could be a production process. But it is not added up to other differences like material used. Later on, with a Climate Impact Forecast, you will be able to add up multiple resources in production, use and the end of life for a more comprehensive calculation of your total GHG emissions.
We made a mistake in filling out the form. What is the implication?
This is no problem, just send another version and we will use the most recent version for each company. 
How many times can we fill out the form in case of a mistake?
There is no limit to filling in the Impact Hypothesis. We will use the most recent (latest) version of your Impact Hypothesis send via the tool. If you dont send the file to your own emal adress we won't receive a copy and we can't select you for the pilot phase. 
Is it possible to record the assumptions that are made and the logic behind them, e.g. calculations for market size, etc. Is it possible to forecast a range?
We are looking for an estimation. With a Climate Impact Forecast you can support your assumptions with arguments and the right sources.  It is also not possible to put in a range. If you have a range please select the midpoint of the range.
What is the email to use in sharing the completed form?
Please fill in your own (company) email address when sending the Impact Hypothesis.
